Aston Villa defeated Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday and denied Chelsea to regain top spot of the Barclays Premier League.  Villa’s new £3.5million signing, Zat Knight scored in 47th minutes, on his debut for Martin O’Neill’s team.   Gabriel Agbonlahor ensured victory for the home team after adding one more with 2 minutes remaining. 

In an earlier match, Emmanuel Adebayor, Cesc Fabregas and Tomas Rosicky helped Arsenal to beat Portsmouth 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.  Kanu scored the consolation goal for Portsmouth.  Arsenal is now second place in the table, after Liverpool.  Philippe Senderos was red-carded for obstructing goal-scoring opportunity.

In another match between Blackburn and Man City, Blackburn emerged stronger via a goal from Benni McCarthy. He scored his first goal of the season and continued City’s downward slide in the table standings
